LASIK & ULTRALASIK

What is Lasik eye surgery?

LASIK eye surgery is a corrective procedure for different retractive visual problems, especially myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness). It also corrects astigmatism.

LASIK is short for Laser-Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis. It uses laser surgery to correct your vision problems by only reshaping the cornea and how it projects lights to the retina.

After LASIK eye surgery, you will be able to see, distinguish faces and improve your vision without eye lenses. That makes LASIK one of the most popular treatments in Eye Consultants Center.

In Eye Consultants Center, our LASIK department is specialized in this corrective procedure with highly qualified eye surgeons and state-of-art technology to offer the best quality care to our patients.

We use the WaveLight EX500 Excimer, the fastest modality of LASIK surgery available in the UAE. So, you can expect a quick procedure and a permanent improvement in your vision that will last for many years.

How the LASIK procedure is performed?

With traditional LASIK, a controlled blade (microkeratome) is used to create the flap (a kindof hinged piece of corneal tissue).

Prior to the treatment

Anesthetic eye drops are applied to the eye. An eyelid holder is used to prevent the eye from blinking during the procedure

The Treatment Steps

lasik step 1

STEP 1:

Preparing the treatment

A microkeratome is positioned in preparation of the flap cut.

lasik step 2

STEP 2:

Creating the flap

The microkeratome creates a flap, a hinged corneal piece of tissue.

lasik step 3

STEP 3:

Folding back the flap

The flap is gently folded back, exposing the inner corneal tissue to be treated.

lasik step 4

STEP 4:

Correcting the error

An excimer laser reshapes the corneal tissue, correcting the refractive error.

lasik step 5

STEP 5:

Repositioning the flap

The flap is returned to its original position, protecting the eye like a natural bandage.

Corrective Eye Surgery Using The Ultra-LASIK Technique:

Ultra lasik is a surgical technique superior to Lasik where a very thin corneal flap (100 µm) is created and reshaped for each patient using an optimized excimer laser software to correct for short sight, astigmatism, long sight and presbyopia. The advantage over conventional Lasik technique is fast healing and quick visual recovery, so patients can resume their daily lives within 24-48 hours. If a patient is not a candidate for Ultra Lasik, a special lens (Intraocular Lenses) can be implanted inside the eye to correct the vision.

If you are considering LASIK surgery, you probably have many questions. Some of the most frequent ones are addressed here. This information is not intended to replace consultation with your eye doctor.
