A cataract is a cloudy formation that develops in the eye lens and usually interferes with visual function. Visual impairments depend on the density of the cataract and its location.
In most cases, cataracts develop after 55 years of age, but younger patients and infants may also develop one.
When a cataract clouds our vision, the visual impulse does not adequately reach the retina. The light is not focused, and the patient cannot distinguish his visual field. It happens because the lens changed its protein and fiber structure and lost its transparency.
